Special area of interest is in the wrist and distal radio-ulnar joint and joint replacement within the hand. Provides wide spectrum of treatment for common conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, dupuytren's disease, trigger fingers, tennis elbow, de Quervain's and a variety of elective hand, wrist and elbow problems. Brief History: Prof Stanley was trained in Liverpool. was appointed in May 1979. Created the Upper Limb Unit in 1979 and developed an international reputation for Wrightington Hospital. Made Professor of Hand Surgery in 1996. He is a member of the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons. For a number of years he was a member of the council of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand and was elected President in 1999. He has been visiting Professor to South Africa, Mayo Clinic, Hospital of Special Surgery in New York, University of Loerven in Padenberg. He is a member of the French Hand society and a corresponding member of the Swiss Hand Society. He has right of title in France. Overseas member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. Honorary member of the Western Australia Hand Club. Has been President of the British Rheumatoid Arthritis Society, Surgical Society. Honorary President of the British Association for Hand Therapists. In 2004 won the Surgical Team of the Year, a national award hosted by the Hospital Doctor Magazine. Continue to lecture locally to patient groups and nationally and internationally to trainee doctors. During the last 27 years, he helped develop the unit to a level where there are now 7 Consultant Surgeons providing a comprehensive upper limb service for general problems as well as more complex reconstructions.
